Trailer for No Mercy

Here is the trailer for No Mercy, the next book in the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. No Mercy is scheduled for release September 7th.

You can read an excerpt here. Here's the blurb:

Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there’s a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she’s ever faced before.

Shapeshifter Dev Peltier has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years and in that time, he’s seen it all. Or so he thought. Now their enemies have discovered a new source of power- one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date.

The war is on and Dev and Sam are guarding ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules and pray it doesn’t unravel the universe as we know it.

Am I the only one excited about Dev's story? Or what happens next? The great thing about this series is the series arcs, the plots that span the books. It's not just that I want to see things from Dev's point of view, it's that I want to know what is going to happen next.

Demon from the Dark (Immortals After Dark Series, Book 8) by Kresley Cole

Demon from the Dark didn't start out all that great for me, but once things got going it was pretty much impossible to put down.

The biggest problem with the Immortals After Dark series, for me, is the huge cast of characters combined with the time span between reading the books. I should probably read the series again at some point, because I'm losing track of who is who, what their powers are, what their histories are, etc.

We have story arcs being followed through from several previous storylines in Demon from the Dark, threads that are pretty important when it comes to the events in this book. So, not fully remembering events from previous books was a bit of a problem - I remembered the basics, but not the details.

Things started slowly for me, I think because right away the story starts with two people I've never heard of before. And then once the story moves beyond that and into the present day, the reader is still kind of lost as to what is going on. Nothing to anchor on to, for a while.

At some point we find out enough of what is going on that we can get into the story though, and from there it's an E Ride. However, there are some things that I was fine with while reading the story, but now I'm thinking... really? He'd have gone from wild hellion to mostly civilized that quickly, after hundreds of years? But, the story is so skillfully written that I had none of those thoughts while I was reading it.

Here's the blurb:

A dangerous demon she can't resist...

Malkom Slaine: tormented by his sordid past and racked by vampiric hungers, he's pushed to the brink by the green-eyed beauty under his guard.

A maddening witch he aches to claim...

Carrow Graie: hiding her own sorrows, she lives only for the next party or prank. Until she meets a tortured warrior worth saving.

Trapped together in a savage prison...

For them to survive, Malkom must unleash both the demon and vampire inside him. When he becomes the nightmare his own people feared, will he lose the woman he craves body and soul?

As for the writing elements, the plot is yet another plot of two people brought together under impossible circumstances who come together against impossible odds. It's a very creative plot though, and pretty good, fitting in nicely with the rest of the series. Several things about the story do require the reader to suspend belief where personalities and emotions are concerned, but for the most part it's a good plot. And it goes a long way towards furthering the overall series plot arcs.

The pacing had some serious issues in places, but once I got 20% of the way into it I didn't even consider putting it down. Prose and dialogue were good. Character development was most excellent, and world building continues to be very well thought out with a whole lot of intricate details thrown in to help the world come alive.

The sex in this one was rather hot, too.

Not all of the series I keep up with have another book listed as coming out. The authors have stated there will be more, but to my knowledge they haven't said when, or given a title name. I've listed those series below.
* Caruthers Sisters series by Candace Havens
* Meredith Gentry series by
Laurell K Hamilton
* Daughters of Arianne series by Joey W. Hill

* Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich

Below are series I follow, but it is unclear whether there will be more books in the series:
* Bronwyn the Witch series by Candace Havens
* Nadia Stafford series by Kelley Armstrong
* Nature of Desire series by Joey W. Hill

* Felix Gomez series Mario Acevedo
* Spellman series by Lisa Lutz

You can read an excerpt of many of these books, to see my list of excerpts please go here

If someone wants to send me an ARC of one of the books on my Anxiously Awaiting list, I will read it within a day or two of it arriving (assuming I'm home and I'm not sick or anything), and will get a blog post up of it as soon as I've finished reading it. You may send me a digital version at chained lightning at g mail dot com, or to send a hard copy you may contact me at that email address to ask for a shipping address. If you have an ARC you would like to send that is not on my Anxiously Awaiting list I will attempt to read and review it in a timely manner but it may not be placed topmost in my TBR pile. Feel free to email me to see if I'd be interested in reading something, as well. I've found a few authors this way that I may not have read had I not received a review copy from the publisher. And now I'm hooked on a few of those series, just waiting for the next book.
