Moon Sworn (Riley Jenson, Guardian, Book 9) by Keri Arthur

I'm quite sad that Moon Sworn was the final Riley Jensen book. I was hoping for an ending that put a nice neat ending to it, but I'm sad to say that I can only call the ending... satisfactory.

It's not a bad ending, it's a fine way to end the series. But I was really hoping for more. Perhaps it's expected that we'll read the next series, which will have Risa (Dia's daughter) as the main character. That series is supposed to focus more on the Aedh and demons, which may be why we learned a few things about Quinn in this book that seemed like extraneous pieces of information.

Since the offshoot series will be set in the same world and it seems likely will revolve around Riley to some extent since Dia and Riley are friends and since Quinn may end up teaching Dia... I'm guessing that we'll get to peak in on Riley and Quinn, Rhoan and Liander, and the rest of the crew. With that in mind, perhaps the ending might be more than satisfactory, since it's not so much of an ending.

Still, I find myself a bit disappointed with Moon Sworn. There were periods of time where Riley is separate from the rest of the cast, and I wanted to see more of them, too. It was a quick read, and the pacing was okay. One of the plots was mostly as expected, with a twist thrown in, and a coincidence within the twist that stretched the boundaries of believability just a bit for me. (I know, I'm speaking in code, but I don't want to give spoilers).

I'm going to give Moon Sworn an 8 of 10, and I'll end the series as a 9 of 10.

  1. I finished reading it today and I agree completely with your final review.
I love series that ends at some point. I loved this serie, the characters and the plots.
The ending was not as great as it could have been, and it gave me the impression of being a bit too "quick".

Another thing I noticed in the series is the unexact future references and world references. Some tecnologies are futuristic, others are already old now (who is gonna print so much paper in the future? usb ports in a future computer?! music cds?).It seemed to me that the first book was written with some effort of placing the time in the future, but in the next books there wasn't a lot of attention to those details.

Thank you for the time you're taking compiling this blog. It's simply great!
