* Series Ratings at-a-glance

Listed below are the most recent ratings (shown to the left of the series name) for the series I've reviewed, listed in alphabetical order by genre. Click the series name to go to my reviews of the books in the series.

This gives a good at-a-glance idea of what is out there and how I rate it, but to really get an idea of how a series has gone, you need to read more about the series. For instance, I've got the Stephanie Plum series rated a 7 of 10 because the latter books have gone from good to silly... but the first 8 or 10 books in the series were very good, many of them a 10 of 10.  The Dresden series is the opposite, with some of the middle books not rating very well, but the most recent book being good enough to raise the series by several points.

There are also some debut series here, and in some cases there are only one or two books out. Not really enough for a full series rating, but I've got them listed here because it's not right to leave them off, either.

I guess the point is to just remember that the rating you see is how I've rated it after the last book in that series that I've read - and that the rating may have been different at another point in the series.

  2. Glad it's helpful Jon.

    I've read more new authors in the past couple of months than is normal for me, but I'm really enjoying the fresh ideas coming out.

  3. I used the Barnes & Noble gift card my daughter got me the other day to pick up a couple of "known" authors' books, by Huff and C.S. Friedman, but also took a chance on a new one that I don't see mentioned in your series list, Heart of Stone by C.E. Murphy. It was merely ok, didn't motivate me to run right out and buy the rest. I'll have a review up on my site next week (scheduled for the 14th, I think).

  4. I posted an update showing the debut series I've started:

    The three I most recommend out of the new series I've read this year are the Skindancer/Dakota Frost series, Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin series), and the Jane Yellowrock series.
