Purity in Death plays into the futuristic parts of this world, and that's a nice change of pace from previous storylines.
Since we're dealing with computers, of course that gives Roarke a reason to be involved yet again.
Once again, Eve finds herself investigating cops. But not just cops, she's also investigating other public service workers as well, in many branches of service. She's played around with the letter of the law since she fell in with Roarke, and she's had some conflicts about that. The events of Purity in Death bring those front and center for her, and force her to analyze things a bit more than she's allowed herself before. The events also contrast and compare her morals to those or Roarke -- not necessarily a good thing, but they figure it out.
But Ms. Robb isn't through there. No, she has to have the whole city debating those same morals, having it play out in the media as well as society in general.
A frightening new computer virus begins spreading—with no boundaries. Eve Dallas starts racking her brain for answers and for the courage to face the impossible—that this virus might be able to spread from machine to man.
As for the writing elements:
- The plot was beautiful. In a twisted and warped way, of course.
- Pacing was mostly okay.
- Prose and dialogue were excellent.
- Character development grew and changed here, which is a good thing.
- World-building was consistent with previous books.
