Survivor in Death (In Death, Book 20) by JD Robb

 

Survivor In Death was riveting. I find it amusing that the stalwart and unshakeable Eve is scared of three things - children, farm animals, and Trina. I suppose that's three things and one person. At any rate, Eve ends up with a child living in her home during the events of Survivor in Death, and she doesn't deal all that well with it. I appreciated her frank honesty with the child, and her ability to find people who could take care of her and help her, since Eve knew she wasn't exactly capable of doing it herself. I also found it humorous and touching that Roarke ended up having cops crawling all over his house and estate, and that while he wanted it over with as soon as possible... he wouldn't have kicked the kid out to make it happen.

I think Ms. Robb is using the events of this book as well as Mavis' pregnancy to assure us that Eve and Roarke are not going to be having kids anytime soon. Or, I hope that's what she's telling us.

As for the writing elements:

• The plot was terribly sad, but still a good one.
• Pacing was mostly okay.
• Prose and dialogue were excellent.
• Character development was once again further developed for many of the characters.
• World-building was consistent with previous books.

I don't have to think about the rating on this one, Survivor in Death easily gets a 10 of 10.
